The Wise Dog
Once upon a time, a man went with his dray to the woods to cut wood for fire and he took also his dog with him. The dog wandered the woods and he lost himself from his master, going further and further in the savage mountain. Suddenly, he saw a lynx that stepped stealthily in a tree, with his back arched, ready to attack. The dog looked around and saw a few bear traces. He leaned over them and said loudly, so as to be heard by the lynx:
-Ilve been following this bear for four days in order to eat him... but I canlt find him... and Ilm starving...
The lynx got astonished and confused. How is it possible, he asked in his mind, for a small animal to be so ferocious? So ferocious as to hunt the bear?
The lynx went far away and met the wolf to whom he told about the dreadful animal newly arrived in the woods.
- What are you talking about, the wolf said, this is just a lost dog, I know this animal because I went down after sheep in the manls village. He can hunt only small birds, ha-ha you, lynx, you make me burst into laughter!
- This is it! The lynx rubbed his whiskers with his sharp c’aws. Then, he will pay for this. I go to eat him.
The lynx together with the wolf went in search of the dog. When the dog saw them getting c’osed to him he put his paws to this hips and shouted to the wolf:
-Itls better like this, I am content also with a lynx, if you could convince him so easy to come to me!
The lynx thought the wolf deceived him and made him come to the dog. Furiously, he scratched the wolf and ran deep into the woods. The wolf remained face to face with the dog.
-You canlt deceive me so easy, the wolf said, while he s’avered, it is me that ought to eat you, instead the lynx.
